NRA Instructor 101

BIT + Basic Pistol Training
(two day seminar)

Basic Pistol Instructors are now trained by combining an on-line course via the NRA (Phase I of your training) costing $60 payable to the NRA, followed by in-class training at BeSafeAcademy which consists of two days and costs $240. First, REGISTER for the BeSafe Academy course to reserve your spot. Then you will need to complete Phase I of your training via your computer. To do this, go to https://onlinetraining.nra.org/online-courses/nra-basics-of-pistol-shooting-course. After you complete this Phase I on-line training, you will notify Bob and he will send you the information relating to the classroom portion (Phase II) of your training.

NRA Instructor 201

Home Firearms Safety Instructor - 4 hours

Home Firearms Safety Instructors are qualified to teach this excellent course to a wide variety of students, clubs, schools, Boy Scouts, etc. It is a non-shooting course that covers:

  • The elements of gun safety
  • Identifying and unloading different firearms
  • Types of ammunition
  • Cleaning and storage of firearms

This 4 hour certification course ASSUMES THAT YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED the 6 hours of Basic Instructor Training. Upon completing the course and the exam, and upon receiving the recommendation of your Training Counselor, you will receive your certification through the NRA and be authorized to teach the Home Firearm Safety course to your students. The Home Firearm Safety course is a NON-SHOOTING course and requires no range qualification time.

NRA Instructor 301

Personal Protection in the Home Instructor - 9 hour course (1 day)

Personal Protection in the Home Instructors are able to teach this advanced class to students who have already completed a First Steps Pistol or Basic Pistol class. It is a natural extension of those entry level classes and is designed to give the student advanced training in home defense.

This 9-hour certification course requires that you have already completed the NRA BIT and Basic Pistol Training certification, either at BeSafeAcademy or from another NRA Certified Instructor. Once certified, you will be qualified to teach the "Personal Protection in the Home" course.

Chief Range Safety Officer 401

Course Goal: To develop NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to train and supervise NRA Range Safety Officers and to provide the essential information required to develop Range Standard Operating Procedures.

Course Length: 6 hours

Class Size: Minimum class size 6 students, maximum class size 12 students.

Course Cost: $200 (prior students receive 10% rebate on the day of class)

Requirements: Must complete a written, open book exam with a minimum score of 90%; must pass classroom firearm handling exercises (there is no required range qualification shoot for this course).

Personal Protection Outside the Home Instructor 601

The Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH) Instructor course is a comprehensive and intensive training experience that will reward the serious candidate with three accomplishments.

  1. You will improve your own personal tactical shooting skills which will render you more confident and capable in defending yourself in a lethal encounter.
     
  2. You will be authorized to teach the PPOTH to the general public (assuming that they meet the required prerequisites to attend).
     
  3. You will join a much smaller and more elite group of NRA instructors who have mastered these skills through classroom and live fire range exercises (including drawing and firing from a hip holster or purse).

Who may attend? You must be a certified NRA Pistol Instructor as well as a Personal Protection in the Home Instructor and you must have attended the PPOTH course as a student before you can become a PPOTH instructor.

How long is the course? The Personal Protection Outside the Home STUDENT COURSE is divided into two levels (basic and advanced). Level one is a nine-hour course and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Level two is an additional five hours of range training and teaches advanced shooting skills. The PPOTH INSTRUCTOR COURSE is typically two days. We combine both the student portion and the instructor portion into two very full days of training.

Where is this course taught? Bob teaches this course in Eustis, Florida at the new and exciting Strategic Outfitters Firearms Training Center located 35 miles NW of Orlando (adjacent to Mt. Dora). Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Combined 701/702

The NRA Certified Rifle and Shotgun Instructor course is a comprehensive and intensive training experience that will reward the serious candidate with three accomplishments.

  1. You will improve your own personal knowledge and skill of both rifle and shotgun shooting.
  2. You will add two additional disciplines to your current NRA instructor credentials.
  3. You will be able to offer to the general public instruction in either NRA Rifle and/or NRA Shotgun courses.

Who may attend? You must already be an NRA Certified Instructor in some other discipline, having already completed your BIT training within the last two years.

How long is the course? The Rifle Instructor Course and the Shotgun Instructor courses are distinct (each has its own curriculum, testing, and range qual). We teach them back-to-back in two very full and intense days of training.
