NRA Instructor 101

BIT + Basic Pistol Training (two day seminar)

Basic Pistol Instructors are trained over a two-day period. The first day course is Basic Instructor Training (BIT) which consists of learning how to teach NRA curriculum and learning NRA policies and procedures. The second day consists of learning to teach the specific NRA discipline of Pistol.

At BeSafeAcademy, we combine these two courses back to back and offer them at a price rarely found on the NRA website.

NRA Instructor 201

BIT + Home Firearms Safety Instructor - 10 hour course (1 day)

Home Firearms Safety Instructors are qualified to teach this excellent course to a wide variety of students, clubs, schools, Boy Scouts, etc. Teaching "Home Firearms Safety" does not require any firearms usage (range time) and covers:

  • The elements of gun safety
  • Indentifying and unloading different firearms
  • Types of ammunition
  • Cleaning and storage of firearms

This 10 hour certification course includes the 6 hour NRA BIT Training. For those who have already completed their BIT training, you may take the 4-hour Home Firearms Safety Instruction only (see course 201-B to register). Once certified, you will be qualified to teach the NRA Home Firearms Safety course.

NRA Instructor 201-B

Home Firearms Safety Instructor (no BIT) - 4 hour course (1/2 day)

Home Firearms Safety Instructors are qualified to teach this excellent course to a wide variety of students, clubs, schools, Boy Scouts, etc. It is a non-shooting course that covers:

  • The elements of gun safety
  • Indentifying and unloading different firearms
  • Types of ammunition
  • Cleaning and storage of firearms

This 4 hour certification course ASSUMES THAT YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED the 6 hours of Basic Instructor Training. The course meets from 3:00-7:00 pm. Upon completing the course and the exam, and upon receiving the recommendation of your Training Counselor, you will receive your certification through the NRA and be authorized to teach the Home Firearm Safety course to your students. The Home Firearm Safety course is a NON-SHOOTING course and requires no range qualification time.

NRA Instructor 301

Personal Protection in the Home Instructor - 8 hour course (1 day)

Personal Protection in the Home Instructors are able to teach this advanced class to students who have already completed a First Steps Pistol or Basic Pistol class. It is a natural extension of those entry level classes and is designed to give the student advanced training in home defense.

This 8-hour certification course requires that you have already completed the NRA BIT and Basic Pistol Training certification, either at BeSafeAcademy or from another NRA Certified Instructor. Once certified, you will be qualified to teach the "Personal Protection in the Home" course.
